If you are like me, then you are obsessed with hairstyles, haircare and everything related to it. My mom used to make jokes about me because once I see a new shampoo or conditioner in an ad on television, I’ll be sure as hell going to the shops the next day to try it out. Okay, those shampoos never really gave me that supermodel-hair but one can dream, right? But I don’t really want to talk about my haircare routine in this post. If you would want to hear about that just let me know!
What I want to talk about on this Sunday is my hairstory. I used to never really change my hair and especially the color a lot. My natural hair color is an ashy rich brown which you can see at my roots. Around two or three years ago I decided that I want a change. I always admired the girls who can rock those brave hair colors, like a deep red. So that is what I went for. Those of you who already tried a red-ish hair color know how high maintenance it is. First of all, you need to dye your hair a few times because the red pigment does not want to hold on to your hair that well. So the red tends to fade quite quickly. That is why you should always dye your whole hair when you touch up your roots. Speaking of roots: When you have a quite cool toned natural hair color like me you will need to refresh the red quite often as the roots can appear a bit green because of the contrast.

I really did love this color, but about a year ago I was just fed up with its high maintenance. I wanted to go back to my natural brown hair. Oh yeah, I should mention I always dyed my hair myself, never had any problem with it. So this time again, I went into a shop and got myself some brown hair dye. Well… let’s say it didn’t really turn out like my natural color.. at all!!! I was left with a really dark cool brown, which almost looked black. The worst part was, that my roots did not want to go with the color so they were shining a little red. So dyed them again, which just made my hair even darker. I was disappointed in it but as I always try to make the best out of every situation I talked myself into the idea that this is what I wanted.. haha! I thought I could just let my hair grow out and I will have my natural hair color back… but it did not work like that. The difference was too big so I ended up dying my hair every few weeks again. The same situation I wanted to avoid. After a few months, I thought enough is enough and made an appointment at a very high priced salon. But I didn’t want to risk ruining my hair forever so I made the sacrifice. And let me tell you: It changed my hairgame completely.
To make my hair look brighter we added some paintings (or balayage) to the lengths of my hair. She also made the transition between the black and my normal hair color softer. I loved my new hair. I let it grow out for about six months and then went back in to get the balayage even higher on my hair so that the rest of the black disappeared. I also wanted to be lighter in total. So she made my hair this gorgeous ashy blond color which I can just grow out or add some balayage in a few months again. I am really happy with how it is now and can tell you how easy it is to get balayage or paintings in general. No roots, no work!
I know this post is already way too long but there is one thing I want to add. I was really scared to let bleach near my already damaged hair. But my hairlady recommended a new treatment which is called OLAPLEX. It rebuilds your natural hair structure while bleaching or dying.. haha sounds crazy, right? I am not a professional so I won’t try to explain how it works but it definitely does. My hair never felt better (not even in the ‘natural’ state a few years ago). So ask your hairdresser or google for more information.
Have a fab day!
