The Ultimate London Travel Guide – From a Seasoned London Addict

London and I? We go way back. Like, over-ten-trips kind of way back. I just got back from another visit with my bestie, and let me tell you – no matter how often I go, I still get butterflies when I see Big Ben. If you’re planning your own trip to the best city in the world (yes I would go that far), here’s my personal (and slightly obsessed) guide to the must-dos, hidden gems, and things that are honestly overhyped.

Tourist Musts That Never Get Old

I don’t care how many times I’ve been to London – Big Ben and Buckingham Palace will always be on my list. There’s just something so magical about them. And bonus: you can totally walk between them. London is such a walkable city, and if the weather isn’t being its usual moody self, I highly recommend strolling from one sight to another. Nothing beats seeing the city on foot!

Borough Market – A Foodie’s Paradise (But Maybe Skip the Chocolate Strawberries?)

Borough Market is non-negotiable. It’s a must. The energy, the smells, the insane variety of food – I could move in. That being said… the chocolate strawberries? Overhyped. There, I said it. Instead, go for a fresh pastry, an epic cheese toastie, or literally anything from the endless food stalls. Your taste buds will thank you.

Camden Town – The Coolest Vibe in the City

If London had a rebellious, artsy younger sibling, it would be Camden. The Camden Market is my happy place. I can (and do) spend hours wandering through the quirky stalls, vintage shops, and endless street food options. It’s such a refreshing contrast to London’s posh, royal side, and honestly, it’s just cool.

Primrose Hill – The Local London Experience

Since you’re already in Camden, take a little detour to Primrose Hill. This gorgeous residential area feels like a different world – peaceful, charming, and totally not touristy. The actual Primrose Hill (yes, it’s an actual hill) offers an insane skyline view of London. Pro tip: Start your day with a matcha at Greenberry’s Cafe, take a leisurely walk, and then head back to Camden Market for round two of exploring.

Covent Garden – Because Who Doesn’t Love a Little Magic?

Covent Garden has my heart. It’s elegant, it’s lively, and it’s got some of the best street performers ever. Also, the shopping? Chef’s kiss. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s worth visiting just to soak up the atmosphere.

Sky Garden – The Free View You Need

Want a killer view of London without dropping a fortune? Sky Garden is the answer. It’s a botanical garden on top of a skyscraper, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. Here’s the catch: You need to book tickets at least a week in advance, or you’ll miss out. I went during sunset, and it was a next-level experience. 100% worth the planning!

Notting Hill – More Than Just Portobello Road

Notting Hill is picture-perfect, but let’s talk about Portobello Road Market. It’s impressive, yes, but crazy crowded—especially on weekends. If you’re up for the hustle, go for it, but if you want something a little more relaxed, head one street over to Westbourne Grove. It’s dreamy, less packed, and full of chic boutiques, cute cafés, and that effortlessly cool Notting Hill vibe. We absolutely loved it!

Sketch – A Restaurant Like No Other

Sketch is not just a restaurant – it’s an experience. It’s boujee, yes, but it’s also totally unique. The decor, the ambiance, and the (very Instagrammable) design make it worth every penny. This time, we only went to the bar and skipped the restaurant, but even just that was unforgettable. Just remember: reservations are a must.

Matcha Lovers, Rejoice!

I take my matcha very seriously, so naturally, I have recommendations.

  • Blank Street: A chain, yes, but their sweet matcha blends are amazing. The Blueberry Matcha? Life-changing (though probably not the most authentic).
  • Tsujiri (China Town): If you want the real deal, this is the place. Also, while you’re in Chinatown, take some time to explore – there’s so much to discover!

Luxury Shopping – Where to Splurge

  • Selfridges: My personal fave. Best selection, best brands, best vibe.
  • Harrods: A must-see for the history and the legendary Food Hall (trust me, it’s way better than Selfridges’ food section).
  • Liberty: A total gem – smaller, more curated, and far less crowded. The selection is limited but oh-so-beautiful.

The Sandwich That Haunts My Dreams

Germany doesn’t have Joe & The Juice, which means I still dream about their Tunacado Sandwich. If you see one in London, grab it and thank me later.

Tips & Tricks for Navigating London Like a Pro

  • Public transport is your BFF: Tap in with Apple Pay or get an Oyster Card. Easy peasy.
  • Escalator etiquette: Stand on the right, walk on the left. Break this rule at your own risk.
  • Crossing the street is an Olympic sport: Look BOTH ways, because the whole driving on the left thing still confuses me.
  • Skip Oxford Street for shopping: It’s chaos. Instead, head to Regent Street or Bond Street – much prettier, way more enjoyable, and just around the corner.
  • When you don’t know where to go for food (literally any time, breakfast, lunch, dinner) go to Bill’s

So there you have it – my ultimate London guide. Whether it’s your first time or your tenth, London never gets old. Enjoy every second, drink all the matcha, and don’t forget to book that Sky Garden ticket in advance!
